Cellar Series #11 -
Ian Brand - California Tralblazer - Next Thursday!
We have been watching a rebirth of California wine in many ways over the past several years and the resulting wines have been super exciting to follow. However, as most of these wines still come from established areas like Napa and Sonoma County, it has been fascinating to see wines that are truly from off the beaten path. We are thrilled to host Ian Barnd who been making wines for a decade from very old vines along California's central coast. The Wine Spectator has chronicled Ian love for long forgotten vineyards that utilize grape varieties like Albarino, Mourvèdre and Cabernet Franc. with remarkable success.
Seeing as though Ian's wines have a Southern Rhone lean to them, we will taste a full line up of his wines and will finish with one of our favorite Chateauneuf-du-Pape producers, Domaine du Banneret. Why? Because Chateauneuf-du-Pape is always a pretty great way to end any tasting! Domaine du Banneret was recently written up in Decanter magazine as being one of the absolute top producers in the appellation and makes incredibly small quantities of delicious age-worthy reds.
All of the wines to be tasted are truly wines of great substance and we are thrilled to put together a lineup you'll love. As Ian Puts it: "We are not in 'wine country', we have no trophy winery or posh tasting salons. This is farmland, desolate hills and solitaire. What we do is simple, without artifice. It's simple and we enjoy it."
Light snacks will be offered to cleanse the palate, along with regional cheeses, but not dinner. The wines to be tasted are limited, however there will be deep discounts offered to those in attendance. Seating is also extremely limited, don't miss it. Hope to see you there!
